Free Medical Camp

To ensure free medical services to the poor and vulnerable beneficiaries who are unable to afford the necessitated occasional medical check-ups, 4 health camps and one Eye Camp were successfully endeavoured for them. Firstly, Eye Medical Camp was organized in Kamrup district of Assam, to screen for possible eye defects possessed by the beneficiaries. The initiative found that they were suffering from conditions such as myopia, hypermetropia, cataract, epiphora, presbyopia, astigmatism and many more. Secondly, Free health camp was strived under New Hope project in Chandel and Churachandpur in Manipur and Champhai in Mizoram. In the three health camps which were coordinated and conducted back-to-back, the people received free consultations and screenings. In aggregate, 300 inhabitants took part in the health camps and they showed great appreciation for the endeavour. Thirdly, one day Health Camp was strived at Satrapara High School on 11 June, 2024 from 11.00 am to 1.30 p.m. The medical team consisted of doctors, CHO, Pharmacist and grade IV staff. The beneficiaries included the domestic workers, their families, school staff and the principle. They received free screening and were found to be suffering from fever, allergy, gastric issues, physical ache, calcium deficiency and cough syrup, among others. In total, 201 beneficiaries benefitted.
In all the above 5 health camps, the attendees were given medicines at free of cost and were also provided referrals for further necessary action.

Health Awareness and Promotion

To sensitive the beneficiaries and promote the importance of health and healthy living, the following programmes were carried across several project locations:

Nongpoh

A programme to sensitize the community on the concept and importance of health was carried out at Nongpoh in collaboration with Dr. Mrigakhi. The attendees were duly enlightened by the seasoned Dr. Mrigakhi who has had vast experience at promoting, maintaining and monitoring communities’ health status. Additionally, a programme on mental health was undertaken in collaboration with District Medical Health in the presence of Health Officer of Ri-Bhoi District, Meghalaya. Furthermore, to monitor and improve children’s health status, health assessment and food supplementation drive were carried out at majority of the learning centres in Nongpoh.

Tea Garden Belt

To ensure healthy living practices among the inhabitants of the tea gardens, the villagers were elucidated on the concept and warranted practices on health and hygiene, nutrition, balanced diet and alcohol abstention. Additionally, education and drop-out prevention also formed important aspects of the campaign.

World Health Day

World Health Day which is celebrated annually to mark the founding anniversary of World Health Organization (WHO) was observed in the tea garden areas on 7 April, 2024. Taking into cognizance the theme of the year: “My Health, My Right”, the inhabitants were educated on how they were accountable for their own health and duly inspired to practice healthy habits for a healthier and a fulfilling life.

International Yoga Day

The International Yoga Day was celebrated by the staff and the beneficiaries by performing collective yoga movements at various pockets of the project areas, to get across the message of the importance of health preservation of both the body and the mind.
The day is officially recognized by United Nations and is observed across the globe every year on 21 June.
